'Walkie Talkie' Workshop @ Onewhero Rugby Club

This event is FREE for the community. However, space is limited, so please RSVP to Kate Reese at [email protected] ASAP if you’re keen and able to attend.

The Wairamarama community received a grant from MPI’s North Island Weather Events (NIWE) Isolated Rural Communities Recovery Fund at the end of last year to help prepare our community for future adverse events.

Part of the funding was used to install a radio repeater out the back of the Wairamarama. The repeater significantly improves radio communications for the northwest Waikato and beyond.

John Burns (WheroNet) has been generous with his time and expertise in this area. John coordinated the installation of the repeater and has offered to run several workshops for the community, explaining how to use your walkie talkies effectively.

One of the workshops will be held at the Onewhero Rugby Club (upstairs) on Sunday 21 April, starting at 2.00pm.

Following John’s presentation, the Onewhero Emergency Response Group will share an update about the Onewhero Civil Defence Plan, recently approved by the Waikato District Council.

We invite you to stay and chat after the workshop. Afternoon tea will be served to attendees around 3.30pm.

Special thanks to MPI’s North Island Weather Events (NIWE) Isolated Rural Communities Recovery Fund, John Burns for his time and expertise, and the Onewhero Rugby Club for their community spirit.
